ROBERT HOLTS ORCHESTRA
The term, “Big Band” is a true description of Robert Holts Orchestra. The great bands of the 1930’s through 1960’s frequently used four trumpets, four trombones and five saxophones in addition to piano, drum, string bass, and guitar. In later years a fifth trumpet and fifth trombone were often also added. Those bands usually had a male and female vocalist and frequently added a five or six person jazz vocal group. Robert Holts Orchestra is faithful to that format and plays with as many as nineteen professional level muscians and eight vocalsts.
We play a wide range of musical styles including soft, romantic ballads, exciting swing, burning jazz, and Afro-Cuban and South American and Latin rhythms. Our Big Band repertoire consists primarily of exact transcriptions of the actual recordings of the great bands and vocal groups from the golden era of swing. Because of this, the Robert Holts Orchestra does not provide pop or rock music styles. We do, however provide those styles in our smaller Ninefold and Joey P and the Hats combos. Using many professional level musicians with years of experience, Robert Holts Orchestra compares favorably with the most elegant and talented studio orchestras available today.
NINEFOLD
For the client with a smaller budget or whose event is in a smaller venue we can provide a nine piece combo called Ninefold. This group is made up mostly of musicians from the larger band and plays many of the same songs that the larger band plays. Ninefold also offers a wider range of styles including pop or rock, not provided by the Big Band. While the Ninefold combo can sound much like our Big Band, its repertoire is different consistent with the reduced number of players and singers.
JOEY P AND THE HATS
For the most intimate events, we provide a three or four piece combo called Joey P And The Hats. This group features the tenor saxophone styling of Joey Placenti, one of the top jazz professionals in this area. Joey is ably supported by a rhythm section taken from the larger band and he can provide any genre of music from modern jazz to pop and rock. Joey is also an excellent vocalist.
